Who we are
HomeschoolTribe is an online community platform for homeschooling and worldschooling families worldwide. We connect families, share resources, and support learning outside traditional school settings.

What data we collect
We collect only what is necessary to run the platform:
- Account data: email address, hashed password (never stored in plain text), and optionally a Google login link.
- Profile data: family name, region, country, bio, profile photo, and children's age groups (no names or dates of birth).
- User-generated content: forum posts, inspiration tips, announcements, marketplace listings, and messages you send to other families.
- Approximate location: coordinates rounded to approximately 10 km for the community map — never your exact address.
- Payment data: handled entirely by Stripe. We never store card numbers or bank details.
Why we process your data
- To operate your account and provide the community features (legal basis: contract performance).
- To send account-related emails such as email verification and password reset (legal basis: contract performance).
- To process payments via Stripe (legal basis: contract performance).
- To keep the platform safe by moderating content and handling reports (legal basis: legitimate interest).
Children's data
We do not collect names or personal details of children. The only child-related data we store is age group ranges (e.g., "6–10 years") as selected by the parent or guardian. This information is used solely to help families connect with others in similar situations.
HomeschoolTribe is intended for use by parents and guardians aged 18 and older. If you believe a child has created an account directly, please contact us so we can remove it.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data. We share limited data only with:
- Stripe — for payment processing. See stripe.com/privacy.
- Google — if you choose to log in with Google. See Google's privacy policy.
- Our hosting provider (Strato) — servers located in Germany, subject to GDPR.
How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we anonymise your profile and content within 30 days. Payment records are retained for 7 years as required by tax law.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you are based in the EU/EEA, you have the right to:
- Access a copy of your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and data (available in Settings)
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

Cookies
We use one session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or via a notice on the platform. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
