Formal history curriculum or living-books approach - is one enough?

We use Story of the World and love it. But I wonder if we are missing something without a more rigorous structured programme.

SotW is plenty rigorous with the activity guide. Map work, narration and discussion questions build real historical thinking.

SotW was enough for grammar stage then we moved to document-based for logic stage. The transition was natural.

Living books are the best history education available. Add a timeline notebook and you have something richer than most school programmes.

Add one primary source per chapter. Children who read original voices develop historical empathy no textbook can manufacture.
