Charlotte Mason vs unschooling - where is the real difference?

These two terms are used almost interchangeably in some groups but seem very different. Can someone who has done both explain the practical gap?

CM has structure: living books, narration, nature study, short lessons. Unschooling is child-led with no planned curriculum. Both respect children - the method differs.

We moved from unschooling to CM when our daughter asked for more structure at age 9. The transition was smooth.

The key CM principle is atmosphere, discipline and life. Unschooling relies on environment and child interest without adult-planned content. Fundamentally different.

Both work. We did CM for three years then relaxed into something closer to unschooling. Watch the child and adjust.
